Transition from visual block coding to real text-based programming in Python and JavaScript!

Tech Navigators — Innovators Lab is an intensive project studio for experienced pre-teens.

Before writing code, students engage in hands-off algorithmic analysis—writing pseudocode, tracing memory variables, and studying computational efficiency on whiteboards.

Students apply text coding to game development (building 2D Python/JS games), web applications, and wireless micro:bit radio mesh networks.

In AI, students build personal Machine Learning models, embed vision classifiers into mobile apps, and critically analyze AI ethics and bias.

Practical Information

  • Ages: 11–13
  • Group size: up to 12 children
  • Session Duration: 3 hours per weekly Sunday lesson.
  • Prerequisites: Prior coding background (Scratch, App Inventor, or robotics).
  • Technology Used: Python, JavaScript, MIT App Inventor (ML extensions), micro:bit radio, Sphero RVR/BOLT.
  • Class Structure: Advanced coding lab with text-based project building.
  • Showcases: Includes mid-year and end-of-year parent presentation sessions.
